ASTC IF/THEN Gender Representation Report

ASTC If_Then Report_Final.jpg

We had the pleasure of collaborating with ASTC’s IF/THEN® Initiative on this incredibly important gender representation report. Collecting data from over 70 U.S. science centers, the report found that museums have a lot of room for improvement in depicting women STEM professionals in their exhibits. While more than half of STEM professionals in promotional materials were perceived as women, less than 25% of the STEM professionals depicted in the exhibits themselves were perceived as women.

Our goal was to present the data as clearly and engaging as possible. We used color coding (purple for women and girls, teal for boys and men) and small illustrations for each category to simplify scanning through and understanding top-level takeaways. We sprinkled photos of women scientists (available through If/Then’s photo library) throughout the report. Check out the full PDF!
